Some Amazing Facts About Empire State Building

The Building Was Finished In Record Time
B-25 Bomber Crashed Into The Empire State Building In 1945
A Woman Survived A 75-Story Plunge In One of The Building’s Elevators
Despite the colossal size of the project, the design, planning and construction of the Empire State Building took just 20 months from start to finish.
Using as many as 3,400 men each day, they assembled its skeleton at a record pace of four and a half stories per week—so fast that the first 30 stories were completed before certain details of the ground floor were finalized. The Empire State Building was eventually finished ahead of schedule and under budget, but it also came with a human cost: at least five workers were killed during the construction process.
On the morning of July 28, 1945, while flying an Army B-25 bomber toward New York’s La Guardia Airport, Army Lt. Col. William F. Smith became disoriented in heavy fog and drifted over Midtown Manhattan. The World War II combat veteran managed to dodge several skyscrapers, but he was unable to avoid plowing into the 78th and 79th floors of the Empire State at 200 miles an hour. The crash triggered a massive explosion and sent debris careering through the building’s interior. Smith and two crewmen were killed, as were 11 people inside the building. A four-alarm fire broke out on several floors—it was then the highest building fire in New York’s history—but firefighters managed to extinguish it in just 40 minutes. Amazingly, the undamaged sections of the building were reopened for business just two days later.
During the 1945 bomber crash, several pieces of the B-25’s engine sliced through the Empire State Building and entered an elevator shaft. The cables for two cars were severed, including one containing a 19-year-old elevator operator named Betty Lou Oliver. The elevator plummeted from the 75th floor and soon crashed into the subbasement, but luckily for Oliver, more than a thousand feet of severed elevator cable had gathered at the bottom of the shaft, cushioning the blow. The fall may have also been slowed by a pocket of compressed air generated by the car’s rapid descent. Despite suffering severe injuries including a broken neck and back, Oliver survived.

4) 2 Days Trip To Niagara Falls From New York $330

If You Visiting New York For 5 Or More Nights And Want To Visit Niagara Falls, Then A 2 Days Trip For Niagara Is The Best Option.

Itinerary

Day 1: New York City – Niagara Falls, NY – Niagara Falls, Canada

This 2-day, 2-country experience begins at Gray Line New York on 8th Avenue in New York City, continuing to Niagara Falls, NY and Canada.

Climb on board a comfortable, air-conditioned coach for an early morning departure from the Big Apple, through Upstate New York to Watkins Glen, a small, quiet town in the scenic Finger Lakes region. Make a stop at Watkins Glen National Park, then continue on to iconic Niagara Falls for a late afternoon arrival. Explore the American side of the falls, which will be colorfully illuminated for the evening, before an overnight stay at Super 8 Niagara Falls Ontario (or a similar accommodation) on the Canadian side of the falls.

The overnight stay is scheduled on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. Customers without necessary documentation will receive an overnight accommodation on the American side of Niagara Falls. Please state 'US visa only' in the 'Special Requirements' box at time of booking.

*Montour Falls will replace Watkins Glenn Park during winter months when it is inaccessible

Day 2: Niagara Falls, Canada – New York City (breakfast included)
After breakfast at the hotel, it’s time for a Maid of the Mist boat cruise. This is the ultimate Niagara Falls activity and no trip to the falls is complete without it. Grab an included poncho and get up close and personal with the falls. Feel the cool spray and the powerful sounds of the water. This is the experience of a lifetime for those taking the tour between mid-May and October.  Outside of those dates, take an equally exciting “Journey Behind the Falls” to explore the scenic tunnels below and behind the Canadian Horseshoe Falls. Make no mistake — this is as close to the falls as anyone wants to be. The sound is like thunder and the view is breathtaking. Stand back, or in this case stand just close enough to feel the power. It’s exhilarating. After Niagara Falls, continue on the road back to New York City, making a stop to shop at the Crossings Premium Outlets, one of the largest outlet malls in the US with 100 name-brand stores. Finally, arrive back at Gray Line New York in the evening.

Hotel Accommodations:
Comfort Inn “The Pointe” or similar. Please note specific hotels mentioned not guaranteed

Maximum of three people per room. If traveling with a party of 4 or more, or desire to have separate rooms please make separate bookings

All passengers are required to have proper identification when entering or leaving the United States. For entry to Canada, it is the passenger’s responsibility to make sure in advance that visa requirements are met

Passengers without the proper travel documents to cross and enter Canada can still join this tour. In such event, the passenger will remain at the hotel on the United States side of the Falls and will not join any part of the tour that will take place in the Canadian territory. You will be able to join the boat ride on the Maid of the Mist as this departs from the American side of the Falls. You will get to see the American Falls and the Canadian Falls from the boat. During the winter months, when the Maid of the Mist is not operating, you will be able to walk to the Falls on your own. There are no substitute attractions on the America side of the Falls. Outlet shopping is located on the American side and does not require a Canadian visa or passport
